Traditional German Food



Many people enjoy cooking and of course eating German food, and Germany definitely has a wonderful tradition of excellent food. The following is a bit of information about the traditional and authentic cuisine from Germany, and you may just find some foods you want to try or a great gift idea for someone in your family as well.

Not All German Food is Heavy

While many people consider German food to be heavy, this is not really the case. Although some of their foods are quite hearty, there are a variety of light German recipes that are tasty.

One very light recipe from Germany is German Potato Salads Most of these salads are on the light side, and they are very tasty as well.

Another type of German fare you may want to try is the Black Forest Cake This german creation is a cherry chocolate cake that is delicious and a true testament to the wonders of German cooking.

A Few Traditional Foods You May Want to Sample

- German Wurst
- german sauerkraut
- Linsen mit Spätzle
- german bread

Beer

No doubt you will want to try out some German beer as well. There are a variety of different types of German beer. There are clear wheat beers, yeasty beers, and lager. Various types of beers also go down great with some types of foods, such as the Weiss beer, which goes right along with the Weisswurst.

Also, beware that a Maß is actually a liter of beer, and more than likely you are going to want to share one with a friend.
