About 20 years ago my sister-in-law lived in Germany. For Christmas, she would send us a box of German treats. My husband's favorites were a round cookie with a paper-like substanced on the bottom. If I remember correctly, they had sort of a gingerbread flavor. His 50th birthday is coming up & I'd love to buy some for him. Could you please tell me the name of them & perhaps where I could purchase them. Thank you so much!
Hi Trudy,
the german cookie you are looking for might be a kind of german gingerbread also called Lebkuchen. The dough is often placed on a paper-like round or rectangle substance also known as "Oblate". You can buy them at Amazon.com (searching for "Lebkuchen") or at one of the sources on our dedicated "german christmas cookies" page:

All the best,
