Nuts Cookies with Marachino

by Robin
(United States)

Hi.
I lived in Frankfurt, Germany for 3 years from 1985 - 1988. I fell in love with the food/quisine. Unfortunately, I did not learn much German as most everyone spoke English when I was in Frankfurt.

I've been trying to find the name of a cookie I loved from the bakery near our apartment (however, as I didn't get to learn German, I don't recall what it was called). It had nuts/almonds, was round with a half marachino cherry and the bottom was dipped or covered with chocolate. I would LOVE to get a recipe and/or the name of this absolutely wonderful cookie. I sure hope you can help me with this as I've looked online until I'm cross-eyed! Thank you!

Hi Robin,

although I think I have tried almost all typical cookies available in Germany, this seems to be
a special creation by this bakery in Frankfurt. It is very usual that each bakery has its own creations beside typical regional cookies.
For sure the base of the cookie is the german called "Mürbeteig" better known as shortpastry.

Maybe someone from the Frankfurt area will read this and post a recipe.

All the best,

Gabriela
