Niemerg surname

by Bridget Whiteside
(O'Fallon IL, USA)

My forefathers came from a town in northern Germany named Fruchtorf. Jost Heinrich Niemerg owned a farm there and one of his sons John Bernard Niemerg came to the United States in 1836.

I've always wondered about the meaning of Niemerg or if it was related to some type of place or profession. Any thoughts?

Fürchtorf
by: Berthold Schoene

Hi there

The place you're referring to is spelled "Fürchtorf". My mother is from there, and her maiden name is Niemerg.

All best
