(Markesan, Wisconsin)

Our family name is Sprengeler. This is the present spelling of this name. However, our ancestors (first showing up in the America midwest in the 1850s) is spelled "Sprengler". There is a German candy called "Sprengl"

I'd like to know:
1. What is the meaning and/or origin of our surname "Sprengler/Sprengeler"
2. What is the most commonly accepted spelling for this name?

Dear Ann,
