Nestled in the Black Forest is a golden city, where brands such as Fabergé, Chopard or Wellendorff are manufactured.

Though devastated more than seventy years ago, this city has grown and prospered.

Famous for its jewelry and clock making industries, Pforzheim also is the home to the University of Design, Engineering and Economics.

It has a population of over 110 thousand people and is connected by rail with Stuttgart (capital of Baden-Württemberg) and Karlsruhe. But why am I telling you that?

Because - if you love beads, pearls, pendants, necklaces, colliers, bracelets or other jewels - you shouldn't miss Pforzheim's most important attraction in this context.

Schmuckwelten - more than a a triumph of modern design

The golden city turned the jewelry industry into a tourist attraction in 2005. Schmuckwelten is the largest museum in Europe dedicated exclusively to jewelry. The clou: You can buy the exhibited treasures immediately.

It is 3,500 square meters of display, showcasing local industry and the raw materials used to make the precious gifts. It is enchanting visitors with a journey from space to the depths of the sea, shimmering jewels and the best of modern German jewelry. In short: This exhibit is a triumph of modern design, which you shouldn't miss.

Even Luxury Companies produce in Pforzheim

Besides the Schmuckwelten there is also another reason why you shouldn't miss Pforzheim. Many of the following famous jewelry firms operate in the city, creating an amazing depth of skill located in one area.

By 1951 Adalbert Grosse was back in business, with revenues of $2.5 million. Guthmann, a company started in 1910 also rebuilt itself from the nearly 90% destroyed city and a century later is one of the premier exporters of German jewelry.

And there are also many luxury companies not normally associated with Germany that produce jewelry in Pforzheim.

Fabergé Jewelry
