German Flags

Could german flags be a perfect gift? It depends. Patriotism has many meanings for different people. Using german flags as political gift for a special occasion is one way to show your support for your country.


In fact, the numerous uses not only for german ones and their examination have become so popular that the practice of 'vexillology' has been developed. By the way, "Vexillology" means the academic study of flags.


They are everywhere!

A flag is in general some material that is flown from a pole or mast. As soon as you begin adding coloring, design and enblems to it you have a piece of art.

German Flag Meaning:

The flag of Germany shows three horizontal stripes -the top stripe is of black colour; the middle stripe is red; and the bottom is gold. The colors black - red - gold are connected with German's history back to the middle ages. The actaul German flag colours however can be dated back to early 19th century. This was the time of Napoleonic wars where volunteers, fought for their country. The colours of the soldiers' uniforms were the base for the flags colours: black coats with gold buttons and red braid.

Interesting Facts:

The colours of the flag of Germany now stands for the unification of Germany. From 1935 on for ten years, it showed a red background with a black Swastika in the centre of it on a white circle.

The former East Flag Version (1959 to 1989) displayed Communist emblems on it.

Historical Origin:

The origin in the history of flags goes back to approx. 1000 BC. Egyptians had primitive versions, some were even made out of wood or metal. They were originally used for the purpose of signal or identification to others.
