Best German gummies, hard candy, marzipan and more

If you believe America is the king of candy then you have never tried German candy. Those who have been in Germany, know what I mean.
It's often the first food which comes in mind when asking "What do you miss most about Germany?"

Celebrate with us the greatness of German goodies. And find some delicious-tasting options for your recipient or you.

And as I know how tricky it is to get your hands on real German sweets in many parts in the US, we’ll give you also some tips where to get them easily online.

less sweet than American candy

In general one can say, that German sweets aren't that sweet as American or English ones. Depending on the type it's more fruity. Usually gummies and marzipan are known as authentic German candy but have you ever tried typical german bonbons or delicious German chocolate?

Haribo Sweets

Maybe the most popular type of German sweets worldwide is the Haribo gummi candy. Hans Riegel - owner of the Haribo company - invented the first gummi candy (better known as gummi bears) during the 1920s. See my picks below

Trolli another German gummi candy manufacturer invented in 1981, the first gummi worm.

German Bonbons

German hard candy (Bonbons) you get almost in all shapes and variations, taste at least some of the following brands and you won't go wrong:

- Brause Bonbons
- Dr. Soldan
- Gletscher Eis
- Hitschler Candy
- Pullmoll Drops
- Granini
- Storck

Chocolates

Although Switzerland has maybe creates for most of you the best chocolate in the world, you shouldn’t miss the

German chocolate. It tastes delicious and it often comes in very attractive packaging, making it especially appealing as gift.

Marzipan

German Marzipan makes always a tasty gift for recipients with a sweet tooth. Originating in Germany, this very sweet dessert is made of sugar, rosewater and almonds often coming in fun shapes such as bears, pigs, toys and fruits. The most popular Marzipan brands are:

- Reber Marzipan
- Niederreger Marzipan
- Zentis Marzipan
- Victor Schmidt Marzipan

Bottom Line:

Go ahead and try the fine taste of german chocolate, bonbons, marzipans and fruitgums.
