German Beer Styles

It is important to know what German beer styles are out there so you can make the best choice for the people you are buying the gift for.

German Beer Styles

Helles

If you want a lite beer, you will want to go with something such as Ein "Helles", bitte, which actually means a lite beer. Now keep in mind if you are in a pub and you order a Helles it will most likely get a pint.

There are some brewers that are making them in smaller portions since the demand for this tasty treat is increasing.

Pils

Some people prefer a more bitter tasting beer and if you are one of those people then you will want to go with an ein "Pils". This flavor is less malty with a more bitter taste.

The foam on this brew can take up to 15 minutes to settle due to its richness.

Weissbier

Another favorite beer is the ever-popular white beer otherwise known as Ein "Weissbier".

Some people are fooled into thinking that this is not a potent beer as the color is so light but in all reality, it is the strongest. Many people like to drink this particular beer with a slice of lemon for added flavor.

Bock

Another strong beer that is liked by many is Ein Bock und Doppelbock. The word Doppel means double even more so, so you can be sure that you are getting a stronger brew.

It is said that this particular beer is brewed mainly in the spring and then again in the fall.

This was a favorite among monks as it was very filling which helped them when they were fasting.
