German Beer Glasses -

for German Beer Lovers

Does your recipient love german beer? Then german beer glasses are a great gift idea. As all german beers usually have their special glass type it’s good to know his/her favorite german beer brew. The purpose of that special glass design is to increase the aroma, apperciation and appearence of your beer. We’ll guide you in the following through the german beer glasses "jungle".

Hefeweizen Glasses

Tall and delicate glasses, with a close bottom opening in top direction before then narrowing a bit again are typical for Hefeweizen glasses. This is true also for Kristallweizen and Dunkles Hefeweizen.

Pils Pokals

When you wish a pils in germany then you’ll get it usually in a "pokal" (german for cup) - similar to an elegant, long champagne flute.

Kölsch Glasses - Kölsch-Stange

Kölsch is usually offered in a straight and simple 200ml glass with a cylindrical form("Kölsch-Stange").

Altbier

Altbier is sold in a "Becher" - this is a cylindrical, simple and straight glass, (200 ml) broader and shorter than a Kölsch glass mentionned above.

Berliner Weisse Goblets

In a rounded cup/goblet with a stem Berliner Weisse is served. It tends to come sometimes also in a heavy tumbler.

German Beer Krug

A beer mug of stoneware including a handle is also called krug. The litre mug you get on a german oktoberfest is named a Mass Krug. The glass versions you see in beer gardens especially in Munich is called a Seidel.

German Beer Stone

Some people call the Seidel and the Mass Krug wrongly "steins". A German "Steinzeugkrug" or beer stein is in fact a stoneware beer mug with a hinged pewter lid. Such German Beer Steins could also be a perfect gift idea. Steins come often with relief decorations and have in the meantime worldwide a huge collector community. Check here for more informations on german beer steins.
