German Beer Brands -

Krombacher, Bitburger, Paulaner, Jever,
Warsteiner and more...

Find here our Top German Beer Brands to create your perfect german gift. Germany may be known for many things, but high quality beer is definitely at the top of that list.

The country is home to some of the best tasting beers available in the world, and any of those brands would make ideal gifts for beer lovers. Here is a review of some of the best "beverages" the country has to offer.

Krombacher

Brewed in the small town of Krombach, this german beer brand is one of the top sellers throughout Germany. This is a Pilsener type beer which has a pale color, as well as a lighter body, than some of the other types on the market.

Bitburger

With a population of around 12,000, Bitburg is a small city but its beer brand is the top seller in all of Germany thanks to its tasty Pilsener which has been made in the city since the early 19th century.

Warsteiner

As the brand produced at Germany’s largest privately owned brewer, Warsteiner maintains its high quality products very well. The two most popular beers under this brand are a delicious light bodied Pilsener and a much darker Dunkel.

Beck’s

As the most commonly exported German beer, Beck’s has international recognition. Brewed in the town of Bremen near the Weser River, the beer doesn’t have the traditional German ale taste but instead has a more universal flavor that makes it appealing even to people who aren’t fond of German beer traditionally.

Veltins

Veltins brand beer, named for the family who took over the brewery in 1852, is brewed in the small town of Meschede-Grevenstein in the Ruhr Valley. This Pilsener brew is one of the most highly esteemed in Germany.

Jever

Another one of the top Pilsener brands, the Jever brand is named for the town. This delicious light brew has been made in this city, which is the capital of Friesland, since the turn of the 20th century. Today, the brewery is the largest building in the city and the beer, which gained popularity around the 1930’s, is one of the most popular brands available.

Erdinger

Brewed in the Bavarian town of Erding, this brand uses wheat for its brewing and considers itself one of the largest wheat breweries in Germany. The brand encompasses several types of beers, including Weißbier, Schneeweiße, and Dunkel. An alcohol free version is also available.

Paulaner

This Munich-based brand was originally brewed by monks who developed a Bonk style beer with the traditional amber color brew with a heavy body and bittersweet taste. Paulaner was first brewed at the monks’ cloister in the 17th century and the recipe has remained almost unchanged since.

Löwenbräu

Munich may be one of the larger areas where high quality beer is brewed. The city is home to the Löwenbräu brand which has been making high quality pilsener, marzen, dunkel, and other beer types since the 14th century. This brand has been served at every Oktoberfest since 1810.

German Beer Brands - Bottom Line:

Overall, you’ll find that most of the best-selling and best tasting beers in Germany don’t come from major urban areas but from small towns nestled in the hills and valleys of the country.
